plans Approved for the Clara Luper Sit-In Plaza

Oklahoma City’s Downtown Design Commission has approved plans for the Clara Luper Sit-In Plaza on the very spot where she led children to the Katz Drug store in 1958 prompting the nation’s first civil rights sit-in. They sat at the counter being spat on and cursed for daring to ask for a coke. Their actions led to desegregation across central Oklahoma.
