Sooners Celebrate Championship Legacy
The Oklahoma Sooners will honor their legendary 1985 national championship team this Saturday during their home game against Kent State. It marks the 40th anniversary of OU’s sixth national title, a moment still etched in program history.
New Quarterback Steps In
On the field, the Sooners will turn to backup quarterback Michael Hawkins Jr. who is stepping into the starting role for the first time. He replaces John Mateer, who is sidelined with a hand injury.
Hawkins says he’s prepared. “I’m not the same quarterback you saw last year. I’ve grown,” he told reporters earlier this week.
Kickoff Set for Saturday
Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Norman, and excitement is running high. Fans will not only watch Hawkins’ first start but also celebrate the players and coaches who brought home a national championship nearly four decades ago.
