OU Names Roger Denny as New Athletic Director Following National Search
The OU athletic director appointment is official, as the University of Oklahoma announces Roger Denny as its next Director of Athletics.
Denny will replace Joe Castiglione, who is retiring after more than 25 years leading the Sooners’ athletic department. University officials say Denny was selected following a national search and brings extensive experience in collegiate athletics administration.
Most recently, Denny served at the University of Illinois, where he held the role of Deputy Director of Athletics.
OU athletic director appointment marks leadership transition
University leaders say the OU athletic director appointment reflects a desire for continuity and long-term strategic planning. During his tenure, Castiglione oversaw significant athletic success, facility expansion, and conference transitions.
Denny’s experience includes overseeing budget operations, compliance, and program development at the Power Five level. OU officials say his background positions him well to guide the athletic department through continued growth and upcoming challenges.
Approval expected from Board of Regents
The OU athletic director appointment is expected to receive formal approval from the Board of Regents next month. Once approved, Denny will assume full leadership responsibilities.
University officials say the transition is expected to be smooth, with Castiglione assisting during the handoff period.
