Oklahoma Weather Brings Brief Break From Excessive Heat Before Weekend Warmup

The Oklahoma weather forecast is giving residents a brief break from excessive summer heat this week, with temperatures staying near or slightly below normal for mid-July. Highs across much of the state will remain in the upper 80s to low 90s early in the week, while parts of southern Oklahoma continue to face scattered rain and thunderstorm chances before hotter temperatures return this weekend.

The National Weather Service says Oklahoma will still be hot, but not "excessively hot" through much of the workweek.

Oklahoma Weather Forecast Brings Less Intense July Heat

The Oklahoma weather forecast calls for relatively mild mid-July temperatures across central and northern Oklahoma during the first half of the week.

In the Oklahoma City metro, daytime highs are expected to hover around 90 degrees through midweek. Mostly sunny skies will dominate, although a slight chance for thunderstorms returns Wednesday afternoon.

The National Weather Service forecast for Oklahoma City shows temperatures beginning to climb again late in the week, with highs potentially approaching the upper 90s by Saturday and Sunday.

Residents can follow changing conditions through the National Weather Service Norman forecast office.

Southern Oklahoma Faces Scattered Storm Chances

The best opportunities for rain this week remain across southern and southwestern Oklahoma.

A series of disturbances moving through the middle levels of the atmosphere will continue bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms primarily to southern Oklahoma and western North Texas through the first half of the week.

The National Weather Service in Norman says rain coverage will generally remain scattered, meaning some communities could receive rainfall while nearby locations remain completely dry. Temperatures are expected to stay near or slightly below seasonal averages before warming later in the week.

Eastern Oklahoma could also see isolated afternoon storms. The National Weather Service in Tulsa says widely scattered shower and thunderstorm chances continue over the next several afternoons, with better storm chances possible Wednesday as another system approaches the region.

Current Oklahoma warnings and forecasts are available through National Weather Service.

Summer Heat Expected To Build Again By Weekend

The temporary break from more intense summer heat will not last forever.

Forecasts show temperatures gradually climbing toward the weekend as the weather pattern changes. Oklahoma City could move from highs near 90 early this week to the upper 90s by Saturday and Sunday.

The Oklahoma Panhandle is also expected to remain relatively mild by July standards through much of the workweek. The National Weather Service in Amarillo expects afternoon highs mainly in the upper 80s to around 90 through Friday, with limited atmospheric lift keeping widespread thunderstorm development less likely.

Oklahomans spending time outdoors should continue taking normal summer heat precautions, including drinking plenty of water and limiting extended activity during the hottest portion of the afternoon.

While this week's temperatures may feel more manageable compared with recent excessive heat, forecasters say the summer warmup will return as Oklahoma heads into the weekend.
