The Oklahoma Sooners pulled off one of college football's biggest upsets of the season, defeating the No. 1 Texas Longhorns 27-24 in the 122nd Red River Rivalry at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas on Saturday, October 10, 2026. A dramatic 47-yard field goal by Tate Sandell as time expired completed Oklahoma's comeback and stunned the top-ranked Longhorns.

The Oklahoma Sooners Texas upset came despite Oklahoma trailing 17-7 at halftime and managing just 238 yards of total offense. Defensive touchdowns, a blocked punt and two late interceptions of Texas quarterback Arch Manning helped the Sooners overcome a 10-point deficit and hand Texas its first loss of the season.

The Sooners delivered another game-changing defensive play in the fourth quarter when Peyton Bowen intercepted Arch Manning and returned the ball 42 yards for a touchdown, giving Oklahoma its first lead at 24-17.

Red River Rivalry Victory Delivers Major Win for Brent Venables

According to Texas Athletics, the Longhorns finished with 382 total offensive yards, compared with Oklahoma's 238, but costly turnovers and special teams mistakes proved decisive.

Oklahoma improved to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the SEC, giving head coach Brent Venables a signature rivalry victory.

The win also marked Oklahoma's first victory over an Associated Press No. 1-ranked opponent since 2007, adding another memorable chapter to one of college football's fiercest rivalries.
