The Oklahoma Sooners baseball team is headed to the NCAA Super Regionals after an unforgettable comeback victory over Georgia Tech, capped by a dramatic walk-off home run from Dayton Tockey.
The Sooners defeated the nationally ranked No. 2 overall seed Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 8-7 in 10 innings Monday night in the winner-take-all NCAA Atlanta Regional championship game.
The victory sends Oklahoma Sooners baseball to its sixth NCAA Super Regional appearance and its first since the program's run to the College World Series Finals in 2022.
The Sooners will now travel to face the Kansas Jayhawks in a best-of-three Super Regional series with a trip to Omaha on the line.
Oklahoma Sooners Baseball Erases Four-Run Deficit
The path to victory was anything but easy for Oklahoma Sooners baseball.
After jumping out to a 3-0 first-inning lead, Oklahoma watched Georgia Tech rally and eventually build a 7-3 advantage after six innings.
The Sooners began chipping away in the seventh inning.
Camden Johnson scored on a fielder's choice before Jaxon Willits delivered a run-scoring double to cut the Yellow Jackets' lead to 7-5.
The comeback continued in the eighth when Kyle Branch laid down a bunt that resulted in a throwing error by Georgia Tech pitcher Mason Patel, allowing Dasan Harris to score and trim the deficit to a single run.
In the ninth inning, Jaxon Willits came through again with a clutch RBI single that scored Johnson and tied the game at 7-7.
The comeback forced extra innings and set the stage for one of the biggest moments of Oklahoma's season.
Oklahoma Sooners Baseball Wins On Dayton Tockey Blast
The defining moment of the game came immediately in the bottom of the 10th inning.
On the first pitch of the frame, Dayton Tockey launched a towering solo home run over the batter's eye in dead center field.
According to the ESPN College Baseball Scoreboard, the blast traveled approximately 450 feet and instantly ended the game.
The walk-off homer sparked a celebration among Oklahoma players and fans while silencing a packed Atlanta crowd.
The victory also marked the first time in program history that Oklahoma Sooners baseball has won back-to-back elimination games against a regional host team.
Oklahoma Sooners Baseball Advances To Face Kansas
The remarkable regional run featured contributions throughout the roster.
Deiten LaChance opened the scoring with a two-run home run, while Dasan Harris, Camden Johnson, Jaxon Willits, and Kyle Branch all delivered key offensive plays during the comeback.
On the mound, Jackson Cleveland earned the victory after throwing 3⅔ scoreless innings while striking out four batters and allowing no hits.
According to the University of Oklahoma Athletics Baseball, Oklahoma is now one step away from returning to the College World Series.
The Sooners will face the Kansas Jayhawks in the Super Regional round, with the winner advancing to Omaha.
According to the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship, Super Regional play begins later this week across the country.
