MOORE, Okla. — With thousands of children heading back to classrooms this week, Oklahoma school officials are urging drivers to slow down, obey speed limits in school zones, and stop for school buses during drop-offs and pick-ups.
School Zone Enforcement in Moore
In Moore, school zone lights will continue to flash and speed limits will be enforced throughout the school day, not just during morning and afternoon rush periods. Police say this year’s enforcement will be especially strict to protect student safety.
“It only takes one distracted driver to cause a tragedy,” a Moore Police Department spokesperson said.
Statewide Safety Reminder
The Oklahoma Highway Safety Office reports that speeding in school zones remains a top complaint among parents. Officials stress that drivers must stop when a school bus’s stop arm is extended, no matter which direction they are traveling, unless they are on a divided highway.
