Habitat and weather are key factors to the boom in the northern bobwhite quail population across the state. The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation’s August 2024 roadside quail survey shows the statewide quail index up drastically over 2023, climbing from 2.23 to 6.52 quail per route surveyed. This is 28.8 percent above the 35-year statewide average of 5.06 quail per route and 92.3% above the 10-year average of 3.39.
