Oklahoma Representative Danny Williams Faces Renewed Resignation Calls After Reelection

Oklahoma Representative Danny Williams is facing renewed calls to resign after winning reelection to House District 28 despite substantiated workplace misconduct allegations and an ongoing state ethics investigation. The Oklahoma House Democratic Caucus issued its latest demand on November 5, 2026, arguing that previous disciplinary actions have not adequately addressed concerns about employee safety at the State Capitol.

Williams, a Republican from Seminole, defeated Democratic challenger Blake Cummings in Tuesday's general election, receiving 62.5% of the vote. His victory followed a September investigation by the Oklahoma House Rules Committee, which substantiated multiple allegations of sexual harassment involving female employees and recommended disciplinary action. Williams has denied wrongdoing and previously maintained that he violated neither House rules nor state law.

Oklahoma Representative Danny Williams Faces Calls for Immediate Resignation

House Democratic Leader Melissa Provenzano of Tulsa and Representative Ellen Pogemiller of Oklahoma City renewed their demands following the election, emphasizing the responsibility of legislative leadership to maintain a safe workplace.

Provenzano acknowledged the election results while arguing that the seriousness of the committee's findings warranted Williams' resignation.

The renewed demands follow earlier efforts by the Oklahoma Democratic Party, which publicly called for Williams to leave office and withdraw his reelection campaign before November.

Representative Andy Fugate of Del City, a member of the House Rules Committee, also urged the incoming Legislature to impose additional restrictions if Williams remains in office.

House Rules Committee Findings Led to Legislative Restrictions

The House Rules Committee censured Williams on September 24, following its review of workplace misconduct allegations.

House Speaker Kyle Hilbert subsequently removed Williams from committee assignments and leadership responsibilities, denied him legislative staff assistance and relocated his Capitol office.

The committee also recommended restrictions on one-on-one contact with House employees, workplace harassment training and further disciplinary consideration by the full House.

Because the Legislature was not in regular session when the findings were finalized, some recommendations could not receive full legislative consideration.

Democratic lawmakers now want the 61st Oklahoma Legislature to maintain those restrictions and establish additional protections when lawmakers reconvene.

The Oklahoma House of Representatives will be responsible for addressing any further legislative disciplinary measures.

Oklahoma Ethics Commission Investigation Continues Ahead of November Meeting

Williams is also the subject of a separate Oklahoma Ethics Commission investigation involving allegations that he improperly used his elected position to benefit private businesses, nonprofit organizations and personal interests.

The allegations include concerns involving a telehealth company, a jail-related vendor and nonprofit organizations. These matters are separate from the House workplace misconduct investigation.

Ethics Commission Executive Director Lee Anne Bruce Boone confirmed that Williams submitted his response before the required deadline.

The Oklahoma Ethics Commission is expected to consider the matter further at its November 12, 2026 meeting. No final determination has been announced, and the ethics allegations remain under investigation.

Oklahoma Representative Danny Williams remains reelected to House District 28 despite continuing demands for his resignation. With legislative restrictions already imposed and a separate ethics investigation unresolved, the next decisions could determine how Williams serves his new term and what additional workplace protections the Legislature adopts.
