Oklahoma Prisons Modernize Visitation System
The Oklahoma prisons system is overhauling how families apply to visit loved ones, shifting from a slow paper process to a new online visitation application launching December 1. The Oklahoma Department of Corrections (ODOC) says the change will help manage the thousands of applications processed every month.
ODOC reports it handles more than 1,000 visitation applications monthly, and families have long complained about delays, inconsistent instructions, and communication issues between facilities. The new centralized Visitation Unit will review applications, verify documents, and schedule visits during standard weekday business hours.
Online Forms Aim to Speed Up Approvals
Under the updated system, visitors will submit an online form, upload IDs, and provide required documentation digitally. ODOC says centralizing the process will eliminate duplicate reviews and reduce long wait times that came with paper-based submissions.
Paper applications will still be accepted at ODOC headquarters, but the agency expects most families to switch to the digital system.
Keeping Families Connected Inside Oklahoma Prisons
Officials say updating the system reflects the importance of maintaining family relationships during incarceration. The modernized process is intended to make visiting Oklahoma prisons more efficient, consistent, and accessible statewide.
