Lawmakers Ask Attorney General to Revisit Oklahoma’s COVID Response
21 Republican Lawmakers Request Review
A group of 21 Republican Oklahoma state lawmakers is formally asking the Attorney General to re-examine the state’s actions during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. In a written request, the lawmakers question whether government policies and medical protocols caused unnecessary suffering or loss of life.
Questions Over Experimental Treatments
Specifically, lawmakers want answers as to why certain treatments promoted nationally by then-President Donald Trump were not utilized, including medications traditionally used to treat parasites in animals. Medical authorities have long stated those drugs were not approved for COVID treatment.
Prior AG Review Found No Criminal Wrongdoing
The Attorney General’s office previously reviewed similar claims and found no evidence of criminal wrongdoing. However, the new request asks for another formal review of the state’s pandemic response.
Focus on Government Authority
Lawmakers say they want to determine whether any agencies exceeded their legal authority during the emergency response. The Attorney General has agreed to take another look but has not indicated how long the review may take.
