OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma Ethics Commission has escalated its ongoing case against State Representative Ajay Pittman (D-Oklahoma City) by launching a new formal investigation into alleged violations of a prior settlement agreement over campaign finance infractions.
Settlement at the Center of the Case
In the earlier case, Pittman agreed to pay $35,000 in reimbursements and penalties after the Ethics Commission found multiple violations of state campaign finance laws. The new probe alleges that Pittman has failed to fully comply with the terms of that agreement.
On Thursday, commissioners voted unanimously to open the fresh investigation. The commission also voted in June 2025 to pursue prosecution in the earlier matter — but so far, no charges have been filed.
Potential Legal Ramifications
Ethics law experts say a violation of a settlement agreement can be considered a serious breach of trust, possibly opening the door for criminal referrals or removal from public office.
Pittman’s office has not responded to repeated requests for comment.
Why It Matters
The case highlights the Ethics Commission’s willingness to aggressively enforce campaign finance laws and could serve as a warning to other lawmakers.
