An Oklahoma County jail death investigation is underway after a 33-year-old inmate was found unresponsive inside the Oklahoma County Detention Center Tuesday evening before later being pronounced dead at a local hospital. The Oklahoma County Criminal Investigations Division is leading the investigation into the death of Dancing Feathers Whitecrow, while the Oklahoma Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the official cause and manner of death.

Authorities say the circumstances surrounding the inmate's death remain under active investigation, and no additional details have been released regarding what led to the medical emergency.

Oklahoma County Jail Death Investigation Began After Medical Emergency

The Oklahoma County jail death investigation began shortly after 6:52 p.m. Tuesday, when detention officers and medical staff responded to reports of an unresponsive inmate inside the Oklahoma County Detention Center.

According to jail officials, detention staff immediately began lifesaving measures while requesting emergency assistance from EMSA.

Whitecrow was transported to a local Oklahoma City metro hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Officials confirmed that her next of kin has been notified.

The Oklahoma County Detention Center said the Criminal Investigations Division is conducting the investigation in accordance with standard procedures whenever an in-custody death occurs.

Inmate Was Awaiting Trial At Time Of Death

According to jail records, Dancing Feathers Whitecrow was booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center on April 25, 2026, following an arrest by the Oklahoma City Police Department.

She was being held on a $65,000 bond while awaiting trial.

Online court records indicate Whitecrow was facing multiple felony charges, including larceny, vehicle burglary, and drug trafficking involving fentanyl.

Authorities have not indicated whether any of those pending charges played a role in Tuesday's medical emergency.

The Oklahoma County jail death investigation marks the third reported in-custody death at the Oklahoma County Detention Center during 2026.

Earlier this year, inmates Jeremiah Coffey and Sheila Prince also died while in custody at the facility.

As with previous in-custody deaths, the Oklahoma Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of Whitecrow's death.

Investigators have not released any information suggesting foul play, and officials say the investigation remains ongoing until all evidence, medical findings, and witness interviews have been completed.
