Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon draws record participation in 2026

The Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon wrapped up Sunday with a record-setting turnout and powerful moments of remembrance.

More than 30,000 participants from all 50 states and 15 countries took part in the 2026 race, making it one of the largest in the event’s history.

Known as the “Run to Remember,” the marathon honors victims and survivors of the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing, beginning each race with 168 seconds of silence.

The women’s marathon was won by Oklahoma City native and ICU nurse Maddie McQuirk, who finished in 2:53:06.

Major running events and marathon standards are often supported by organizations like USA Track & Field, which promotes competitive running nationwide.

Half marathon and 5K events showcase elite athletes

The weekend also included standout performances in shorter race categories.

Canada’s Rory Linkletter won the men’s half marathon with a time of 1:10:56, while Jaci Smith set a new course record in the women’s half marathon at 1:15:52.

In the 5K events, Ryan Walker took first in the men’s race, and former Olympian Jenny Simpson won the women’s division.

The wheelchair marathon saw Glenn Pemberton win the men’s division with a time of 1:47:10.

Event timing and race management for large-scale marathons are often coordinated using systems aligned with groups like the Road Runners Club of America.

Event continues mission of remembrance and community

The Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon remains one of the most meaningful events in the state.

Participants run not only for competition but also to honor the lives impacted by the tragedy in 1995.

The event continues to draw both elite athletes and everyday runners, reinforcing its role as a major community and memorial gathering.

National remembrance and historical preservation efforts are also supported by institutions like the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum, which preserves the legacy of the bombing.

Organizers say the continued growth of the event reflects its lasting significance and impact.
