Oklahoma City Council Faces Public Opposition Over Proposed ICE Processing Center
An Oklahoma City ICE processing center proposal is drawing strong public opposition as residents urged city leaders to take action during a recent City Council meeting.
Oklahoma City Council members heard from dozens of residents who spoke out against the proposed purchase of a warehouse that could be converted into an ICE processing center. Speakers challenged city leaders to do everything possible to block the facility from operating within city limits.

City Attorney Ken Jordan told council members that a legal brief is being drafted to outline the city’s available options. Jordan said the brief will address zoning authority, permitting requirements, and whether a special permit could be required before such a facility could operate.
While the city does not directly control federal agencies, officials acknowledged that local zoning and land-use rules may provide limited leverage.
Residents urge council to intervene
Many speakers argued that an ICE processing center would negatively impact nearby neighborhoods and strain city resources. Several residents cited concerns about transparency, public safety, and due process.
Council members did not take formal action during the meeting but said they are awaiting the legal brief before determining next steps. The issue is expected to return to the agenda at the next City Council meeting on February 10.
