Proposed Oklahoma City ICE Facility No Longer Under Consideration, Mayor Says

Plans for a proposed Oklahoma City ICE detention facility appear to be off the table after property owners confirmed they are no longer in discussions with federal officials.

Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt says he met with the ownership group of a warehouse located at 2800 S. Council Road in southwest Oklahoma City, a site previously identified as a potential immigration detention facility.

Property owners confirm talks with DHS have ended

According to Holt, the property owners told him they are no longer engaged in negotiations with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security regarding a possible acquisition or lease of the building.

The mayor noted the owners are not Oklahoma residents and that the southwest Oklahoma City warehouse is the only property they own within the city. Holt publicly thanked the owners for their decision, saying it reflects consideration for the surrounding community.

Mayor Holt urges community responsibility

Holt said he hopes the decision sets an example for other property owners across the city. He called on all owners to weigh the potential impact of future developments on neighborhoods and residents.

The proposed ICE facility had drawn strong public opposition, with residents and advocacy groups raising concerns about transparency, community safety, and federal immigration enforcement practices.

Mayor addresses issue while leading U.S. mayors meeting

The announcement comes as Holt is in Washington, D.C., where he is presiding over the annual winter meeting of the U.S. Conference of Mayors. Holt currently serves as President of the organization, representing mayors nationwide.

City officials say no further action related to the proposed site is planned at this time.
