Oklahoma Capitol Bills Up for Debate
Lawmakers return to the State Capitol this week with several Oklahoma Capitol bills scheduled for consideration in the Oklahoma House of Representatives.
Among the measures drawing attention is House Bill 2123, which deals with the powers and duties of the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority.
The agency has faced intense scrutiny in recent months over its handling of the ACCESS Oklahoma turnpike expansion program.
Oklahoma Capitol Bills Target Corrections Leadership
Another proposal, House Bill 3135, would modify the qualifications required for the Director of the Oklahoma Department of Corrections.
The legislation would also clarify the governor’s authority to remove or replace the director.
Lawmakers Question Past Appointments
The Oklahoma Capitol bills come as some lawmakers have raised concerns about the qualifications of past Department of Corrections leaders.
Several legislators have questioned appointments made by Governor Kevin Stitt, saying the leadership position requires stronger standards and oversight.
