Oklahoma Aluminum Plant Headed to Inola After Kentucky Loses Bid
A major industrial project is coming to northeastern Oklahoma as a new Oklahoma aluminum plant is set to be built in Inola, marking a significant win for the state’s manufacturing sector.
Developers confirmed the facility will become the first primary aluminum smelter built in the United States in more than 45 years. The project had been under consideration in northeast Kentucky before Oklahoma was selected as the final site.
Oklahoma aluminum plant expected to create jobs
State economic development officials say construction of the Oklahoma aluminum plant is expected to generate thousands of construction jobs, along with dozens of permanent positions once the facility becomes operational.
The Oklahoma Department of Commerce says factors such as access to power, transportation infrastructure, and workforce availability played a key role in the site selection.
Strategic importance of domestic aluminum production
Industry analysts and officials with the U.S. Department of Commerce have emphasized the importance of expanding domestic aluminum production to strengthen U.S. supply chains and reduce reliance on foreign imports.
The Aluminum Association has also noted that primary aluminum production supports industries ranging from transportation to energy and defense.
State leaders say the Inola project positions Oklahoma as a growing hub for advanced manufacturing.
