Fire Officials Urge Preparedness
Oklahoma’s Deputy Fire Management Chief Drew Daily is urging residents to prepare for a dangerous wildfire season. Forecasts show above-normal risk across most of the state through January 2026.
Daily emphasized prevention as the best defense. “Clear leaves from gutters, remove debris, and keep a garden hose ready,” he said.
Oklahoma Conditions Worsening
Dry weather, dormant vegetation, and gusty winds make conditions ideal for fast-spreading fires. Data from the National Interagency Fire Center shows Oklahoma among several Plains states entering peak fire months.
Statewide Coordination
Fire departments are coordinating with emergency managers to pre-position resources. Residents are encouraged to create defensible space around their homes and avoid outdoor burning on windy days.
Officials also ask farmers to keep equipment free of sparks and vehicles off dry grass.
Community Awareness
Daily said local awareness campaigns and training sessions will continue through winter. “Preparedness saves lives. The more residents do now, the fewer emergencies we face later.”
