Norman Learning Bus Returns For Summer Reading And STEM Fun
The Norman Learning Bus is hitting the road again for summer 2026, bringing free books, literacy resources, and hands-on STEM activities directly into neighborhoods across the community.
The popular mobile library program, operated by Norman Public Schools, is designed to help children continue reading and learning while school is out for the summer. The Norman Learning Bus will make stops at parks, schools, churches, and community gathering spots throughout June and July, giving families easy access to books and educational activities at no cost.
Organizers say the goal is simple: remove barriers to reading and keep students engaged during the summer months while creating fun opportunities for families to learn together.
The program is open to everyone, and participants do not have to be Norman Public Schools students to check out books or participate in activities.
Norman Learning Bus Brings Books To Neighborhoods Across The City
One of the biggest advantages of the Norman Learning Bus is that it takes the library directly to where families already gather.
The mobile library offers books for every age and reading level, including board books, picture books, early readers, chapter books, graphic novels, and young adult literature.
Throughout June and July, the bus will make scheduled visits to locations including Andrews Park, Reeves Park, Jackson Rotary Park, Jefferson Elementary, Wilson Elementary, Kennedy Elementary, Madison Elementary, and Westwood Family Aquatic Center, among others.
Officials say the flexible schedule allows families to stop by, browse the collection, and check out books without needing to travel to a traditional library location.
"Our goal is to make reading accessible and convenient for families throughout the summer," said Amanda Kordeliski, Director of Libraries and Instructional Technology for Norman Public Schools.
More information about district literacy initiatives is available through the Norman Public Schools Official Website.
Norman Learning Bus Partners With Public Library For STEM Activities
The Norman Learning Bus offers more than just books.
Each week, librarians from the Norman Public Library System join the mobile library at park locations to provide interactive STEM activities and introduce families to additional summer learning opportunities.
The partnership gives children the chance to participate in hands-on science, technology, engineering, and math projects while also discovering resources available through the local public library system.
Library staff also provide information about summer reading challenges, educational programs, and family-friendly events designed to encourage lifelong learning outside the classroom.
Program leaders say combining literacy and STEM education helps students maintain academic skills and curiosity during the summer break.
Additional information about community library programs can be found through the Pioneer Library System.

The Norman Learning Bus will follow a rotating weekly schedule throughout the summer.
Monday stops include Jefferson Elementary, CCFI, and Andrews Park. Tuesday locations feature First Baptist Church, Wilson Elementary, Lexington Crossing, and evening visits to Westwood Family Aquatic Center.
On Wednesdays, the bus will travel to Kennedy Elementary, Reeves Park, and Monroe Elementary, while Thursdays include visits to Madison Elementary, Jackson Rotary Park, Truman Primary, and additional evening stops at Westwood Family Aquatic Center.
From July 7 through July 23, the program will continue special appearances at Westwood Family Aquatic Center on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Officials encourage families to take advantage of the free program as a way to keep children reading, learning, and exploring throughout the summer months.

As summer gets underway, the Norman Learning Bus is once again helping bring books, education, and fun directly to neighborhoods across the city while making reading accessible for families of all ages.
