The Oklahoma Supreme Court has ruled members of Native Nations and tribes still have to pay state income taxes. The long-awaited decision centered around a claim by Alicia Stroble, a member of the Muscogee Creek Nation that she was exempt from state income taxes because she lives and works on the Creek Reservation. The state’s high court found the McGirt decision applied only to Major crimes and did not include civil or taxing jurisdiction.
