National Governors Association Summer Meeting Opens In Oklahoma City

The National Governors Association Summer Meeting begins Thursday in Oklahoma City, bringing governors from across the country together to discuss bipartisan policy, economic growth, workforce development and the growing role of artificial intelligence in state government.

Hosted by Governor Kevin Stitt, the three-day summit runs from July 30 through August 1 and marks the conclusion of his one-year term as chair of the National Governors Association. During the meeting, Stitt will officially pass leadership of the bipartisan organization to Maryland Governor Wes Moore while showcasing Oklahoma's economic development, innovation and entrepreneurial growth to state leaders from across the nation.

National Governors Association Summer Meeting Kicks Off Thursday

The meeting opens Thursday evening with a welcome reception hosted by Governor Kevin Stitt at The Jones Assembly in Oklahoma City.

The event will also feature the premiere of a documentary executive-produced by Stitt highlighting workforce innovation, entrepreneurship and efforts to strengthen America's workforce through state-led initiatives.

Friday's schedule includes the first-ever bipartisan Governors Common Ground Town Hall, moderated by NBC News journalist Kristen Welker. Governors from Colorado, Delaware, North Carolina, Utah and Vermont are expected to join Stitt and Moore for discussions focused on energy policy, permitting reform, student achievement and restoring civility in public service.

The summit concludes Saturday with reflections from several outgoing term-limited governors before leaders sign the Governor's Compact on Entrepreneurship, a multi-state agreement designed to encourage small business growth, innovation and economic opportunity.

Artificial Intelligence And Federal Policy Lead Discussions

One of the meeting's primary focuses will be preparing states for the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence and its impact on government services and the workforce.

Former U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo and former Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb are scheduled to lead a session examining how states can responsibly prepare workers and businesses for emerging AI technologies while remaining economically competitive.

Federal policy will also take center stage with presentations from U.S. Senator Markwayne Mullin, discussing permitting reform and immigration issues, and Dr. Mehmet Oz, administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, who is expected to address healthcare programs and SNAP benefits.

Together, the sessions are designed to help governors share policy ideas and practical solutions that can be adapted by states across the country.

Oklahoma Showcases Its Growth To National Leaders

Beyond policy discussions, visiting governors and their staffs will experience several of Oklahoma City's most recognizable attractions during the conference.

Planned visits include the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum and the city's internationally recognized Olympic and Paralympic training venues, highlighting Oklahoma's continued investment in tourism, sports and economic development.

The National Governors Association Summer Meeting provides Oklahoma with an opportunity to showcase its business climate, workforce initiatives and growing national profile while bringing together Republican and Democratic governors to discuss challenges affecting every state. As Governor Stitt concludes his year as NGA chair, state leaders will look ahead to continued bipartisan collaboration under the organization's next chairman, Governor Wes Moore.
