First Wave of Legislation Already on the Table

More than 2,600 pieces of legislation have already been filed ahead of Oklahoma’s 2026 legislative session, signaling another busy year at the Capitol.

Representative Andy Fugate described the early filings as the “first wave” of legislation that will help shape priorities in the upcoming session.

Another Large Wave Expected by Mid-January

Lawmakers estimate that another wave of bills will be filed by mid-January, significantly increasing the total number of measures under consideration before lawmakers officially convene in February.

Senator Paul Rosino cautioned that despite thousands of filings, only a few hundred bills typically become law each year.

Wide Range of Topics Expected

Bills already filed cover a broad range of topics, including:

  • Taxes and state budgets

  • Education

  • Public safety

  • Healthcare

  • Energy and infrastructure

Radio Oklahoma’s Wendy Pratt will provide daily coverage once the legislative session begins.
