An addiction researcher at OSU’s Center for Health Sciences, Dr. Jason Beaman, says if methamphetamine use could be stopped, the state would need half as many psychiatric beds.
Beaman says meth is still the drug of choice for addicts in Oklahoma and that the drug can cause mental disease. The Tulsa Center for Behavioral Health found that 54 percent of their admissions for psychosis were connected to meth use.
