Mental Health Issues Addressed in Public Schools

Many Oklahoma public schools struggle to even have a nurse on duty at a time when mental health issues impacting children are increasing. Attempting to address that issue is Joe Dorman, Head of the Oklahoma Institute for Child Advocacy.

“With school approaching, we know there are a lot of struggles that families face because they are struggling trying to make ends meet and just keep food on the table…,” Dorman said.

A new program at the Department of Human Services puts social workers inside schools. Dorman says Tahlequah Public Schools has signed on to the program, and it is already producing results.
