New Superintendent, Lindel Fields Pledges Transparency and Communication
Oklahoma’s new Superintendent of Public Instruction, Lindel Fields, met with reporters this week to outline his goals for the future of public education in the state. Fields, a retired long-time educator, said his focus will be on restoring transparency and communication — both within the Department of Education and with local districts.
Fields told the media that open communication is key to rebuilding trust. “We need to open the lines of communication between the department and our schools,” he said. “That’s where change begins.”
Auditing Records and Vendor Contracts
Among his first actions, Fields plans to address long-delayed open records requests — some of which have gone unanswered for more than a year. He also announced an immediate review of all vendor contracts to ensure accountability and value for taxpayers.
Education leaders across the state have expressed optimism that Fields’ leadership will mark a new era of stability following months of controversy surrounding the former administration.
Focus on Stability and Student Outcomes
Fields emphasized that every decision moving forward will prioritize student achievement and district support. He said Oklahoma must work to “right the ship” and reestablish confidence in its education system.
