A one-year contract extension will keep the Lawton Correctional and Rehabilitation Facility open. The new contract will be paying the GEO Group 1.7 million dollars less, but there will be just over 200 fewer inmates in the facility. Corrections Director Steven Harpe says more procedures are going into place to ensure safety. The agreement follows harsh criticism of the prison by Governor Stitt who called the company a ‘bad vendor’ on a social media post. No definitive word on what the total cost of the contract will be.
