Lawton officer-involved shooting investigation follows hours-long standoff

The Lawton officer-involved shooting investigation centers on a prolonged standoff that lasted much of the day.

Lawton Police officers were dispatched around 10:34 a.m. to the 500 block of Monroe Avenue.

Officials say they made contact with 33-year-old Anthony Montalvo, who allegedly made verbal threats toward officers.

That interaction escalated into a standoff lasting approximately nine hours, with officers attempting negotiations.

Critical incident response and negotiations are handled by agencies like the Lawton Police Department.

Suspect reportedly exited home with firearms

Authorities say around 8:00 p.m., Montalvo exited the residence holding two firearms.

Officers issued commands for him to drop the weapons and continued attempts to de-escalate the situation.

When he did not comply, officers discharged their weapons, leading to the shooting.

Investigation to be reviewed by district attorney

The Lawton officer-involved shooting investigation remains ongoing.

Once complete, OSBI agents will submit their findings to the Comanche County District Attorney’s Office.
