Governor Kevin Stitt vetoes two major government-related bills during the 2026 legislative session, arguing the measures would expand bureaucracy and improperly use official state documents.

The vetoes targeted legislation involving state agency donation requests and the long-term protection of dozens of Oklahoma boards and commissions.

According to the governor’s office, Kevin Stitt vetoes the bills because of concerns tied to government growth, administrative oversight, and the role of official state paperwork.

The rejected measures included House Bill 3078 and House Bill 3320.

Kevin Stitt Vetoes Veterans Donation Form Bill

One of the bills rejected by Governor Kevin Stitt would have required state agencies to include donation prompts benefiting the Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs on certain official forms.

The proposal would have added donation options to documents including driver licenses, vehicle registrations, and Oklahoma income tax paperwork.

In his veto message, Kevin Stitt vetoes the legislation because he believes official government forms should not function as fundraising tools.

The governor also argued the proposal could place unnecessary pressure on citizens completing essential government paperwork.

According to the Oklahoma Governor’s Office, Stitt said official state forms should remain focused solely on administrative functions.

Kevin Stitt Vetoes Boards and Commissions Bill

Governor Kevin Stitt also rejected House Bill 3320, which would have permanently codified 39 state boards and commissions.

The proposal sought to shield those entities from Oklahoma’s regular sunset review process.

Under Oklahoma law, sunset reviews periodically evaluate whether government agencies, boards, and commissions should continue operating.

According to the Oklahoma Legislature, the sunset process is intended to promote accountability and reduce outdated or unnecessary government functions.

In his veto explanation, Kevin Stitt vetoes the bill because he believes Oklahoma should reduce the size of government rather than permanently expand protected bureaucratic structures.
