Jake Merrick Endorses Mike Mazzei In Oklahoma Governor Runoff

The Jake Merrick endorsement gives Mike Mazzei another high-profile supporter as Republicans head toward the Aug. 25 gubernatorial runoff, with Merrick saying Mazzei more closely reflects his vision for Oklahoma's future.

Merrick, who finished fourth in June's Republican primary, announced his endorsement in a YouTube video Thursday after interviewing both runoff candidates. He said his decision came after comparing each candidate's positions on issues including limited government, parental rights, state sovereignty and tax policy rather than endorsements or campaign politics.

In announcing his decision, Merrick emphasized that his endorsement was based on principles rather than personalities.

"I find myself aligning more closely with Mike Mazzei, so I'll be supporting him for governor," Merrick said. "Not because someone told me to, not because President Trump endorsed him, and not because I dislike Gentner Drummond."

Merrick said he evaluated both candidates through what he described as a limited-government philosophy focused on life, liberty, parental authority, property rights, government accountability, DHS reform and Oklahoma sovereignty.

The endorsement was announced through Jake Merrick's YouTube channel, where Merrick recently conducted separate interviews with both Republican runoff candidates.

Merrick Could Influence Republican Runoff

Merrick received more than 58,000 votes during Oklahoma's June Republican primary, finishing behind Gentner Drummond, Mike Mazzei and Chip Keating.

Political observers say his endorsement could influence conservative voters who supported his campaign during the primary election.

During his interviews, Merrick questioned both candidates about several major campaign issues, including the proposed Inola aluminum smelter, tax policy and President Donald Trump's endorsement of Mazzei.

Election information for Oklahoma's Aug. 25 runoff is available through the Oklahoma State Election Board, where voters can find polling locations, early voting information and election deadlines.

Republican Runoff Set For Aug. 25

Mazzei and Drummond advanced to the Republican runoff after emerging as the top two finishers in a crowded nine-candidate primary field.

Merrick becomes the first Republican candidate eliminated during the primary to publicly endorse one of the remaining gubernatorial candidates.

The winner of the Aug. 25 runoff will advance to Oklahoma's general election later this year.

Additional information about the Republican gubernatorial race and candidate filings is maintained by the Oklahoma State Election Board, as the campaign enters its final weeks before voters return to the polls.
