Gas Prices Drop Below $3 for First Time Since 2021
Oklahoma Drivers Paying the Lowest Gas Prices in the Nation
For the first time since 2021, the national average price of gasoline has dropped below three dollars per gallon, according to AAA. The current national average now stands at $2.99 per gallon.
Oklahoma continues to lead the nation with the lowest average fuel prices, currently at $2.40 per gallon statewide.
Relief Arrives Ahead of Major Holiday Travel
The timing of the drop comes as millions of Americans prepare for winter and holiday travel, including Christmas and New Year’s. Lower gas prices are expected to ease travel costs for families already facing higher expenses for food, utilities, and gifts.
What’s Driving the Price Drop
AAA attributes the decline to:
Lower seasonal fuel demand
Stable crude oil supplies
Reduced refinery maintenance compared to previous months
Gas price volatility is still expected heading into early 2026 depending on weather conditions, refinery output, and global energy markets.
