CDC Reports Increase in Flu Cases Nationwide
Seasonal influenza activity is increasing across much of the United States, but Oklahoma is currently experiencing minimal levels of flu illness, according to the latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The CDC reports a 14.8% increase in positive influenza tests nationwide during the most recent reporting week. While many regions are seeing early signs of flu season escalation, Oklahoma remains among states with the lowest reported activity levels.
Neighboring States Show Higher Flu Activity
States surrounding Oklahoma are reporting significantly higher flu activity. Louisiana and Colorado are currently categorized by the CDC as experiencing very high influenza activity. New Mexico has reached the high activity range, while Texas is reporting moderate levels of flu spread.
Health officials use laboratory-confirmed influenza test results, outpatient visits for flu-like symptoms, and hospitalizations to determine activity levels across states.
Health Officials Urge Continued Vigilance
Although Oklahoma’s flu activity remains low, public health officials caution that flu levels can change quickly, especially during winter months when people gather indoors more frequently.
The CDC continues to recommend preventive measures including frequent handwashing, staying home when sick, and seeking medical advice if flu symptoms worsen.
