The planned multi-billion-dollar Aluminum smelter for the Port of Inola will be an energy Hog. In order to produce a planned 600-thousand tons of aluminum a year, the smelter requires the same amount of electricity as it would take to power the entire state of Rhode Island for a year. The power also has to be cheap, which means renewables in spite of losing numerous government tax incentives under the one big, beautiful bill act will still be needed.
