Families Step Up to Keep Memorial Open
Families of Oklahoma City bombing victims are stepping forward to keep history alive. With park rangers furloughed during the ongoing federal shutdown, families of victims have volunteered as tour guides at the Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum.
Normally, park rangers share stories, guide tours, and answer questions from visitors. But without them, the memorial could have felt empty.
Private Museum Keeps Doors Open
The museum remains open because it is privately operated and not dependent on federal funding. Families say their goal is to make sure the story of April 19, 1995, continues to be told — even during political gridlock.
Museum staff have expressed gratitude, saying the volunteers bring a powerful personal connection that deepens every visitor’s experience.
As one family member said, “This is about honoring those we lost — no matter what’s happening in Washington.”
