Election Board Mistake Temporarily Cuts Off Independent Voter Access
Democrats Working Quickly to Reverse Decision
A miscommunication inside the State Election Board has temporarily closed all Oklahoma primary elections for next year — including the Democratic primary, which independents have been allowed to vote in for more than a decade.
Democratic Party Calls Error “Fixable”
Officials say the error stems from a paperwork gap rather than a policy change. The Democratic Party is working directly with the Election Board to restore access and expects the correction to happen quickly.
Republicans and Libertarians will still hold closed primaries, as they did not opt in to allow independent participation.
The issue is expected to be resolved before early voting begins.
