Drummond orders action from health agency

Attorney General Gentner Drummond is now ordering the state’s Medicaid program to fix major problems. Drummond issued a letter to the Health Care Authority demanding it fix ongoing problems involving the governor’s new managed care system which Drummond says is crashing the state’s health care system for children. His office confirmed he sent the letter to the Oklahoma Health Care Authority and its director. He demanded answers about delayed payments, denied claims, and pressure on in-state pediatric providers. He warned those problems could collapse children’s care across Oklahoma.

AG calls managed care system a threat to kids’ access

Drummond said the program has allowed out-of-state insurance contractors to profit while Oklahoma doctors struggle to get paid. He said clinics now face cash flow crises and cannot keep staff. He also said families report trouble getting appointments under the new managed care setup. He described the situation as an emergency for children on Medicaid. He said the state cannot allow this system to keep failing providers who treat Oklahoma kids.

What happens next for Oklahoma health care

Drummond requested immediate corrective steps. He asked the agency to stabilize payments, stop harmful denials, and protect access in all 77 counties. He also signaled that his office will keep pressure on the Health Care Authority until it acts. State leaders pushed the managed care model to control costs and bring private oversight to Medicaid. Critics now argue the rollout moved too fast and ignored red flags from rural hospitals and pediatric clinics.
