Devon Park indoor softball facility approved for Oklahoma City

A major new Devon Park indoor softball facility is officially moving forward after the Oklahoma City Council unanimously approved final plans and the bidding process for the $25.4 million project. City leaders say the new complex is a key part of Oklahoma City’s preparation for hosting softball during the 2028 Olympic Games while also strengthening the long-term future of the Women’s College World Series.

Construction is expected to begin later this summer.

Devon Park indoor softball facility designed for Olympic competition

The new Devon Park indoor softball facility will be a two-story, 32,000-square-foot complex designed by STUDIO Architecture.

The building will be constructed on a hill west of the main stadium in an existing parking area.

Plans include:

  • Two full-size indoor practice fields

  • Drop-down batting and pitching net systems

  • Dedicated team locker rooms

  • A sports medicine center

  • Hydrotherapy and weight room facilities

A new climate-controlled walkway will also connect the facility directly to the stadium field. The project is designed to create what city leaders describe as an “Olympic-level” training environment.

Facility tied to Olympics and Women’s College World Series

The Devon Park indoor softball facility plays a major role in Oklahoma City’s growing international sports presence.

Officials say the decision by the LA28 Olympic Committee to hold Olympic softball competition in Oklahoma City was largely driven by Devon Park’s reputation as one of the premier softball venues in the world.

The facility is also expected to strengthen Oklahoma City’s long-term relationship with the Women’s College World Series, which has become one of the city’s signature sporting events.

Project funded through historic bond package

Funding for the Devon Park indoor softball facility comes from the $2.7 billion bond package approved by Oklahoma City voters in October 2025.

Construction is expected to continue through 2027, with city leaders targeting completion before the 2028 Women’s College World Series and Olympic competition.

Major capital improvement projects for Oklahoma City are overseen through the Oklahoma City Council and municipal bond initiatives approved by voters.

City leaders see long-term impact

Supporters say the Devon Park indoor softball facility will help Oklahoma City maintain its position as a national and international destination for softball.

Officials believe the project will also bring continued economic benefits tied to tourism, sports development, and major event hosting for years to come.
