Declassified Oklahoma City UFO Files Released By Federal Government
Newly released Declassified Oklahoma City UFO Files are drawing national attention after federal officials unsealed decades-old investigative records involving unexplained aerial encounters over Oklahoma City during the Cold War era.
The documents are part of the federal government’s newly created Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters, also known as PURSUE.
According to the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office, the latest wave of declassified files was publicly released May 22, 2026, and includes military intelligence reports, FBI correspondence, radar data, and eyewitness investigations tied to unidentified anomalous phenomena.
The growing archive of Declassified Oklahoma City UFO Files specifically highlights two major Oklahoma City investigations dating back to 1947 and 1958.
Declassified Oklahoma City UFO Files Detail 1947 Pilot Sighting
One of the most detailed cases within the Declassified Oklahoma City UFO Files centers around Oklahoma City resident and licensed private pilot Byron Savage.
According to the newly released documents, Savage reported witnessing a perfectly round metallic object flying over Northwest 29th Street in Oklahoma City during 1947.
The files state that Savage described the object as completely silent while moving faster than known aircraft available during that period.
As a trained pilot, Savage reportedly emphasized that the object produced no visible exhaust, vapor trail, or engine noise.
According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation Records Vault, military officials considered Savage’s aviation background credible enough to trigger a quiet joint investigation involving both the FBI and Army Air Force Intelligence.
The newly released Declassified Oklahoma City UFO Files include interview summaries and investigative notes tied to the encounter.
J. Edgar Hoover Letter Included In Oklahoma City UFO Files
Another major revelation within the Declassified Oklahoma City UFO Files involves direct correspondence between Oklahoma City resident James Maney and longtime FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover.
According to the unsealed files, Maney contacted Hoover in 1958 seeking answers about rumors involving “flying discs” and military investigations occurring across the Midwest.
The released documents reportedly contain Hoover’s official response confirming that a Special Agent from the FBI’s Oklahoma City Field Office would contact Maney regarding local information.
However, Hoover also stated that the FBI was not the primary investigative agency overseeing unidentified aerial phenomena.
Instead, the Oklahoma City resident was directed toward the Air Force Office of Special Investigations.
According to the National Archives and Records Administration, Cold War-era UAP investigations were often divided among multiple federal agencies depending on military relevance and national security concerns.
More Declassified Oklahoma City UFO Files Expected
Federal officials say additional Declassified Oklahoma City UFO Files are expected to be released in future document waves.
According to the Department of Defense UAP archive initiative, millions of pages of historical paper records remain in the digitization process.
The released files currently include witness sketches, FBI interview summaries, radar tracking information, and intelligence references tied to early military monitoring systems.
Officials say more Oklahoma-based military encounter records may become public over the coming weeks as additional archives are processed and uploaded.
