Click It or Ticket Campaign Targets Oklahoma Drivers

The annual Click It or Ticket campaign is now underway across Oklahoma as state troopers and local law enforcement agencies ramp up enforcement efforts following a rise in deadly crashes statewide.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol and the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office launched the high-visibility traffic enforcement campaign to increase seat belt use and reduce traffic fatalities.

Officials say the Click It or Ticket campaign will include increased patrols, roadside enforcement operations, and overtime traffic units funded through federal highway safety grants.

The enforcement push comes as Oklahoma continues facing growing road safety concerns, including a recent report ranking the state 10th nationwide for distracted-driving-related deaths.

Click It or Ticket Campaign Focuses on Young Drivers

Officials say the Click It or Ticket campaign is targeting all drivers, but extra focus is being placed on young men between the ages of 18 and 34.

Traffic safety data shows that demographic remains among the least likely to wear seat belts and among the most likely to die in crashes while unrestrained.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office, many deadly crashes involving unbelted drivers continue occurring on Oklahoma highways each year.

Law enforcement agencies say seat belt enforcement remains one of the simplest ways to reduce traffic fatalities across the state.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Expands Enforcement

The Click It or Ticket campaign will involve more than traditional traffic stops.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says agencies will use saturation patrols and concentrated roadside enforcement in high-traffic and high-risk areas.

Troopers and local officers are expected to maintain a visible presence throughout the campaign period.

The enforcement effort is designed both to increase compliance and remind drivers about the dangers of distracted and reckless driving behaviors.

Officials say Oklahoma’s recent ranking for distracted-driving-related deaths adds urgency to the statewide traffic safety effort.

Seat Belt Simulators Show Deadly Crash Risks

As part of the Click It or Ticket campaign, troopers are also using seat belt simulators to educate drivers about rollover crash dangers.

The demonstrations show how unbelted occupants can become significantly more likely to be ejected during serious crashes.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, unrestrained occupants may be up to eight times more likely to die during rollover crashes.

Safety officials continue urging Oklahoma drivers to wear seat belts every trip, regardless of distance or road conditions.
