Theft of Public Art Leads to Arrests
Two men are now in custody following the theft and destruction of a 225-pound bronze statue that once stood outside the Sperry Library.
Police say the statue was stolen, cut into pieces, and sold for scrap metal after a tip from the public helped investigators identify the suspects.
Suspects Already Jailed on Other Charges
Authorities identified the suspects as Carl Robinson II and Christopher Klimcak. Both men were already in jail at the time of their arrest on unrelated charges, including shoplifting and evading police.

Investigators say the statue was valued at more than $13,000 before it was destroyed.
Statue Was Cut Up After Removal
According to police, the suspects removed the heavy bronze statue from the library grounds, then dismantled it to sell the metal for scrap value — a fraction of its original worth.
The theft sparked community outrage, with residents expressing concern over the loss of public art and vandalism of shared spaces.
Charges and Investigation Ongoing
Police continue to investigate whether additional charges may be filed. Officials say recovering the full value of the artwork may be difficult due to its destruction.
