The discovery happened after two fishermen spotted the body drifting through the river and immediately contacted law enforcement.
According to investigators, the incident unfolded around 5:00 p.m. near Hogback Road and North Choctaw Road on private property just east of Jones.
The ongoing North Canadian River investigation has now been turned over to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol as officials work to identify the victim and determine how the person entered the water.
North Canadian River Discovery Prompted Multi-Agency Response
The initial North Canadian River recovery effort involved several local and state emergency agencies.
The Jones Police Department and Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office responded first after receiving the emergency call from the fishermen.
Due to the body’s location in the water, the Oklahoma City Fire Department’s Swift Water Rescue team was called to assist with the recovery operation.
According to the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office, crews worked along the riverbank and surrounding private property during the evening investigation.
Officials have not yet confirmed how long the body may have been in the water.
Victim’s Identity Still Unknown
