Former prosecutor Megan Taylor says when a person is granted cash bail, the amount is determined based on whether they are expected to return to court – and not necessarily considering the danger to the public they offer.

This can lead to violent offenders being let out of jail when it shouldn’t happen. The shooting of a Cleveland County deputy this month is bringing back the discussion.
