Ardmore High School water leak shuts down classrooms
An Ardmore High School water leak is forcing students into remote learning this week after major damage during spring break.
The leak was discovered March 18 by contractors working on campus, according to KTEN News Ardmore.
Officials say a line in the school’s geothermal cooling system melted, releasing water at an estimated 450 gallons per hour.
Ardmore High School water leak causes major damage
The Ardmore High School water leak flooded parts of the southeast section of the campus, impacting multiple classrooms.
Crews have removed nearly 7,000 gallons of water, with damage reported to ceiling tiles, carpets, cabinetry, and learning materials.
The water was classified as Class 3 contaminated, meaning anything it touched must be removed, according to Ardmore City Schools update.
Six pumps in the HVAC system also failed during the incident.
Remote learning continues after Ardmore High School water leak
The Ardmore High School water leak has forced students at AHS and Take Two Academy into virtual learning for the week.
Teachers are being allowed back in phases to retrieve belongings while demolition begins, as shared through Ardmore Schools Facebook updates.
District leaders are now evaluating how to complete the school year following the damage.
