Waurika Couple Arrested After Dozens of Dogs Found in Filthy, Cruel Conditions
Waurika, OK — A Waurika couple has been arrested and charged with six counts of animal cruelty after authorities discovered dozens of dogs living in what police describe as “deplorable conditions” inside their home.
Pamela and Wynn Higby were taken into custody following a welfare check that led officers to find numerous animals suffering from severe neglect. Investigators say most of the dogs were malnourished, sick, or injured, and several were already dead by the time authorities arrived.
“It was a heartbreaking and disturbing scene,” said one investigator. “No animal should ever have to live like that.”
According to officials, the stench inside the home was overwhelming, and several rooms were filled with waste, making the environment unlivable for both humans and animals.
The couple is scheduled to appear in Jefferson County Court later this month. The case is still under investigation, and additional charges may be filed depending on the outcome of forensic examinations.
