The Oklahoma drought continues worsening despite limited northern rainfall, with 33 counties now under burn bans as wildfire danger remains high.

The Oklahoma County Burn Ban is in effect through August 21 after more than 130 regional wildfires and dangerous fire conditions prompted emergency restrictions.

The Oklahoma forestry director position remains vacant more than 15 months after Governor Kevin Stitt dismissed former State Forester Mark Goeller following the 2025 wildfire outbreak.
