As the Bricktown canal turns 25 on Tuesday, former Mayor Ron Norick says this idea was one of several to improve the quality of life and keep young people in Oklahoma City. Norick says over the past quarter century more than two million people have enjoyed canal rides. The canal cost 12.3 million to build and an additional 8 million dollars were spent on landscaping. Norick admits many people rolled their eyes at the idea, but he says it’s probably the best money spent to attract people to the city.
