Air Force Captain Arrested In Oklahoma Child Sexual Exploitation Investigation

An Air Force captain arrested in Oklahoma is facing multiple complaints following an investigation by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation's Internet Crimes Against Children Unit into alleged child sexual abuse material.

The Air Force captain arrested in Oklahoma was booked into the Cleveland County Detention Center on complaints of child sexual exploitation, distribution of child pornography and violating the Oklahoma Computer Crimes Act. Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing.

OSBI Investigation Led To Air Force Captain's Arrest

According to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, the agency's Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Unit launched an online investigation on June 14 after discovering information that indicated possible child sexual abuse material.

Investigators said special agents reviewed online files that allegedly contained images and videos depicting child sexual abuse material. During the investigation, agents identified the online user as 30-year-old Matthew Luis Sanchez, an active-duty Air Force captain stationed in Oklahoma City.

Special agents interviewed Sanchez at his workplace on July 8 as part of the investigation. Based on evidence gathered during the investigation, OSBI agents arrested him on July 13.

Sanchez was booked into the Cleveland County Detention Center on complaints of child sexual exploitation, distribution of child pornography and violating the Oklahoma Computer Crimes Act.

Multiple Agencies Assisted In The Investigation

The Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI) and the Norman Police Department assisted the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation throughout the case.

Authorities said Sanchez has since bonded out of jail while the criminal investigation continues.

The OSBI Internet Crimes Against Children Unit investigates crimes involving the online exploitation of children and works with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies to identify suspects and protect child victims.

An arrest is an allegation, not a conviction. Formal charges must be filed by prosecutors, and the case will proceed through the court system.

Investigation Remains Ongoing

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has not released additional details about the evidence collected or whether investigators believe there are additional victims.

Authorities also have not announced whether any federal charges will accompany the state complaints.
